Tropic to Escalante 7/8

July 13, 2012
Tropic to escalante

Today was Flat and uphill for 20 miles,
Then 1 mile to the summit that was steep steep STEEP uphill followed by a bunch of miles downhill.  Our daily average has gone down due to some technical complications... Flat tires...
Oh well.
This was another day where it was raining all around us and a cloud was chasing us. It actually would've been nice because the day was hot. We arrived at escalante at three. We ate at a restaurant and those clouds that ha been chasing us caught up and it poured for a bit.. Kayla finished a 16-inch pizza. We set up tent, but it had stopped raining and we went back inside where we found some AC.
We Found bike tubes because we had no spares. We found some even though there was no bike shop. We were promised a bike shop. Aaargh. We got powerades and trail mix for tomorrow. Tomorrow we have a long day.  A 4000 ft climb and something called the devil's backbone- sounds scary- BRING IT ON.

Panguitch to tropic 7/7

July 11, 2012
Leaving Panguitch was not easy. Kayla's bike tire  was flat when i was ready to go. We tried to buy a tube but the town didn't have any that would fit. We patched and then it would go flat again. After a few times of that we managed to leave town. The patch held....For like 15 miles. We resorted to forcing MY oversized thorn resistant spare tube into Kayla's small tires. In desperation we managed to force them in.
Kayla's flats were not the only obstacle we encountered when we were trying...

Cedar City to Panguitch 7/6

July 11, 2012
The plan was to go to a bike shop and get kayla's bike looked at and get a bike tube bc right now kayla's tubes are all running on patches. Our other plan was to make a plan for the day. See, our route WAS supposed to be up a mountain for the day ____. But, due to some land slide in like october, that road is closed. Our options were to go at night or during the weekend because they have a lane open during that time. Our other option was to go to the nearest town, 20 miles away , Parowan or...

Milford to cedar city 7/5

July 8, 2012
We got coffee and we got out of milford
After milford we reaches this one town called Minersville. Wait, we didn't arrive there, well, yeah we did, but not before the start of a series of mishaps. Kayla's front tire went flat. We blew it up some and headed into minersville where we figured we'd get some food and patch it up. We didn't have any spare tubes for her so patches would have to do. We patched it in Minersville and it was holding. Also, in Minersvie we ran into Clark from Milford....

baker to Milford (Utah) 7/3

July 5, 2012

We made it to Utah. It was our longest day. 83 miles, had head wind and or uphill all day. It took us 15 hours. We lost an hour due to time zone crossing. Utah was hot. We saw a cool sunset at the end of the day. We arrived at 10pm. We had departed at 6am. We ran into some dude from Europe. He was on a bike trip too. He started on the East coast and is finishing up at San Francisco, so he is almost done...lucky. I ate a delicious burger on this day. Oh, I think I misplaced my snickers for the...

Ghost town... Ely to baker (6/2)

Ely to Baker Day

Woke up trying to leave Ely's motel. Door key wouldnt work. Carried bike down stairs. Went to Ridley's. Day just seemed off. Couldnt find alkaseltzer. Kaylas shoe got stuck onbike. Made it to Majors station. Shared a burger. Started at 8. Seemed like an easy day.

The sun made it difficult. Kayla, was cool about it, well, she tried. She was getting struck by some sun rays, especially on the legs so, she put a bandana on. I don't think that covered that much, but something is ...

Ely (6/1)

July 4, 2012

Ely

So yeah. We made it to a somewhat big town, like 4,000 people here. Ely. They have a McDonald's here-that's gotta mean they are an actual town. Right? We needed to update our blogs, do laundry and really just take a day to recover. Fortunately, we got access to a laundry room, a room with cable and after camping out for the last few days, a bed.

My spider rash is just about gone, i have to be more aware of where I sit from now on.

So it turns out, there is no open library today, so w...

Eureka To Ely 6/30

July 4, 2012

Eureka to Ely (Long Day)

We woke up for our earliest start. It was a 78 mile-day. We began our ride at 6am. We arrived at 7 pm. (13 hours).  We wanted to take advantage of the cool weather in the morning. We started the day by climbing the first 2 miles to the top of Pinto Summit.

We stopped after a decline and ate breakfast. We began climbing again another summit. The day was hot, and we kept stopping for quick breaks. It was actually kinda boring, so I began doing handstands. I was safe a...
