Things go wrong, most of the time

Two days before flying to California, I decided to take go for a long bike ride. While climbing a steep hill, I felt something snap in my bike. It did not end well. I had to walk home as I pulled the bike the whole way back.

This, is a busted derailleur. I don't know how it happened, but it did. The thing may as well have exploded, because it was left useless. the cage was completely bent, and the idler pulley was torn to pieces.

Fortunately, if we live through a bad experience, we are given the opportunity to learn. This, was how I practiced and learned how to replace a bike's rear derailleur. Hopefully THIS doesn't happen again.
