Hanksville to lake powell 7/11

Got up semi early-left before 7. Started the day with a thousand foot climb(nothing too bad). We decided that today will be a 50-mile day rather than a 130. There's a campground that has a gas station in fifty miles but we have to go a few miles off route. Yeah that 130 stretch would've been hot and uphill, nearly impossible.

30 miles out, we stumbled upon a nice rest stop. It had shade, bathrooms and picnic tables. I don't that sounds fancy but during a lot of our trip, all of those would have sounded amazing, especially in the desert. Guess what, we ate in the desert again. Utah had mountains and towns but now we are back in the desert.

Since we woke up early, after a few ours we decided we needed a quick nap. In the desert, we found a lonely tree with plenty of shade. After that i felt better and even though the day kept getting hotter, i felt better prepared. Oh and we also hit some downhill for like 15 miles

When we got close to lake Powell, about 10 miles. We got more uphill, oh and the sun beamed hotter. When we saw the lake, our minds were too busy thinking about the heat that we were unimpressed with the scenery.

Oh, we were in the desert and four miles away from the gas station we could see.  we were told that this place had limited hours, so we were in a bit of a rush. Four miles away seemed so far when the we kept running into uphills after each horizon and past every red cliff.
Oh that sun turned all of my water and gatorades into hot teas. We had one final mile but STEEP uphill before turning off route to the gas station.

I chugged the last of my hot powerade tea and headed for the turn, it seemed endless. After I reached it i ran back down the hill and   lugged Kayla's bike as she took a walking break and steadily walked up the hill. We reached the gas station, turns out the were still open for another hour. We bought some food and snacks, ate, set up tent, dipped in the lake and returned to find ants all over our bikes and bags. I dealt with that. Later we found Kayla's phone in her bag. It was hot and displayed a weird dark message saying that the battery was ok. Good night.
