Almost gunnison to sergeants 7/18
Planned to go up monarch pass today. Didnt make it. Called it a day when
we reached the bottom of it. So, right before all the climbing we
stopped.
Woke up to kayla's frantic scream. She looked scared to touch her bag,
the one where we had our food. There was red fuzzy material around the
opening and some rice-sized pieces of something that resembled a small
animal's poo. I emptied the bag contents, no foreign visitor was there.
Many of our packets had holes in them and they appeared to have been
chewed open. At the bottom, my opened bag of cashews lay all chewed. I
separated the still sealed food from the chewed and then kayla pointed
out that THERE WERE SIGNS OF FORCED ENTRY. The bag straps were chewed.
We concluded that the black fuzzies were part of the strap. We concluded
that a small rodent, probably chipmunk smelled my opened bag of cashews
and tried to break into the panniers by chewing the straps. It, then
realized that he disnt need to chew the straps and just squeezed his
body into the bottom and he took some bites every here and there. He
made a silent escape. Right? Wrong.
I think Kayla did it all. She even framed a chipmunk.
