THIS was going to be a long day, we had decided that. We had planned to head out at 4am. We managed to leave at 418am. Kayla, John, and I were determined to cover at least 100 miles; we had to.

So, we need to be in Michigan by this weekend. We are trying to make it to a wedding, and we have a long way to go. Right now, we are thinking that we can make it to Newton and catch a train from there. As long as we catch catch it on Thursday morning at the latest, we'll make it to Michigan. To make it to Newton, we have to average 115 miles for the next few days, though. Under Kansas HEAT, that can't be easy.

We planned to go at least 100 miles for the day, but our goal would be 160 miles. If we went 160 miles we would catch up with another group of bikers, at Ness City. John wanted to catch up with them. He had met them earlier and had been tracking their progress since, wanting to join them. John had been biking  from Alaska since May 28th. He was supposed to do the trip with his friend who ended up not joining him, so he was doing it alone. Biking from Alaska to Florida sounds hard, and I bet having to do it alone must make it at least a million times more difficult. He seemed tired of biking alone, and he wanted to catch up to other group so he would have people with whom to ride. For the time being, he was biking with us, but soon, Kayla and I would head north and he would continue on his straight path to the east coast where he'd then go south to Florida.

John was excited to cover such a large amount of miles, and his enthusiasm rubbed off on us. by 2pm we had already covered 90 miles.

And at the end of the day it feels good to say "Today we covered 160 miles."

Thanks John, couldn't have done that without you. Thanks to Allen and Brian as well.

Oh, yeah, today we also crossed into Kansas. Unfortunately there was no "Welcome to Kansas" sign. We also crossed into another time zone, we lost an hour of our day. That part is actually kind of annoying. Every time we cross a time zone, we lose an hour.
